What Did the Mountains Teach Me?

What did those mountains teach me?
To fall in love with the silence there so pretty?
To leave all things behind that are so petty?
All snow-covered pieces of rock
All the man-made skyscrapers that they mock
The minuteness of our existence
These mountains and their persistence
A coldness, an indifference they rub off over me
I envy them, but at the same time, feel very empty
Large stretches and no encounter with any human life
There is something beyond that here, all around, rife
You come here as an escape from your daily routine
To see what is by many unseen
You find here things you always admired
As if for your happiness, the world has conspired
You don’t go back to being the same as you were
A lot of distinctions are exposed, that was hitherto blur
You went there seeking a motivation
That could inspire you to move mountains
You come back with a realisation
That the mountains moved you.
