Not All Ghosts Haunt You

For all the ghosts
who had their reasons
to keep coming back
to me
in waves–
each bigger and stronger than the other;
I had to multiply myself
each day.

So, I started to wake up
to be water – an ocean –
only to make room
for all of us
to crash and break
and still be able to turn
to each other–
just to be
enough–
to love and to live.

So, I learned not to die.
Each day
I wake up
to resist
the erasure of memory.
For
not all ghosts
who come back to you
haunt you.
Some keep you warm too.

For
not all that’s lost
should be forgotten.
