Truth never perishes, veritas numquam perit
But it can be warped, twisted and sucked of all merit
In a war of whose illusion hardens better
The spells of words from the fawning army maim and shatter.
The war was won, yet the victory was hollow
Countless maidens, with their voices swallowed
The haze of revelry and the cacophony of sycophants
Drown out the tales of savagery’s myriad remnants.
There are shades to truth – ivory, ebony and grey
Yet the twisting vines of narratives fuse predator and prey
It behooves us to stop and see what was lost
A century of progress is what it cost.
