‘She Was I, and I Was Her’

This piece has been republished in light of the Supreme Court hearing on Section 377 this week.

She stood on
The railway platform,
Engines blared
And steam gushed.

The sun
Was bright,
Incandescent
White light.

She stood on
The other side,
Matted hair and
A vengeful heart.

The dark
Grey clouds,
Omnipresent
So loud.

Unified by birth
They were the same,
Yet a section
Separated them.

They stared at
Each other,
Opposite sides of
A blank mirror.

Beating heart
They were the same,
Yet a section
Separated them.

She was I
And I was her,
Separated forever,
Section 377.
