Going Out

‘Life’ is returning, normalcy is returning.
Shall I also go back to being who I was before?
They say it is a good thing,
Cases are going down,
Lockdowns are being lifted–
Does that mean I should be happy?

Probably yes!
I should be happy,
I can go to work now,
But won’t that mean going out?
Dressing up,
Stepping outside my front door?

How do I do that now?
Can I do that?
‘It is easy’, you’d say.
‘We have been doing it for so many years’.

I know it should be easy
Then why does the thought of stepping out make my heart feel so heavy,
My body stagnant?
The more I think about it, the more exhausted I feel,
The longer I want to lie in my bed,
And search the third wave’s arrival.

I can’t seem to believe that cases are dropping–
Are they really?
How?

I will try again,
Take small steps,
Maybe go for a walk first.
But do I have the time to take it slow?
With the third wave probably at the door,
Cases can spike anytime.
So, can I really go out?
