Don’t give up hope, is a common refrain
Keep the light on, be it sun, snow or rain
Yet, hope unbridled is dangerous indeed
Without the tempering of good sense, dejection it breeds.
A year of sorrow has ended
Hope has burrowed in, that things are on the mend
Yet, what has changed we may wonder
Diseased lungs and minds still lurk, just under.
I am not against hope, I know it’s a roll of the dice
It’s the false gold of unchecked optimism that I despise
Get up, take notice and push against the quagmire
For resistance and friction has always been the genesis of fire.
For collective hope without action, leaves two carcasses–
One of your hope, and second of the masses.
A better tomorrow beckons, but it’s not black and white
For, to forge a new dawn, we need to stand up, resist and fight.
