New Delhi: A ‘training camp’, allegedly of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), at a school run by the civic body in Coimbatore, has sparked a row in Tamil Nadu, Indian Express reported.
A video of the ‘training’ has now gone viral, with political parties and civil society organisations demanding action against the Hindutva outfit and school management.
Members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) staged a protest demonstration outside the school, raising slogans against the corporation officials. They alleged that the camp was only possible because of the permission given by the authorities of the civic body.
Coimbatore Corporation commissioner M. Prathap, however, told the daily that no such permission would be given to any outfit to hold any social, religious, or political gathering at schools. He said a show-cause notice was already served on the school headmaster in connection with the probe launched into the incident.
Police have been deployed outside the school to prevent any untoward incident. A case has been already been registered at the local RS Puram Police Station against those who allegedly trespassed into the school.
Meanwhile, TPDK general secretary K. Ramakrishnan told the newspaper that government must act in time to ensure that no such RSS camps are held in schools or public places in the future, by taking immediate action against the officials concerned.
For its part, the RSS denied holding any such camp on a school premises. “No shakha was held and the volunteers were involved only in cleaning activity and it is part of our annual seva event where volunteers clean public places and other institutions,” Indian Express quoted an RSS member as saying.
