Inspired by D.H. Lawrence’s poem ‘Self-Pity’, which was published in an early imagist anthology edited by Ezra Pound in 1914.
He wrote a poem over a century ago,
on self-pity; a mere four lines
that evoked a sense of shame in me,
for I struggle with my widow’s tag.
