Jinxed It

Sitting near the boarding gate waiting for my flight,
Constantly reminding myself that it will be okay,
trying to think positively,
not knowing that one of the worst flight experiences was to follow.
Jinxed my own positivity, blamed my own good thoughts, because
everything went wrong.

Waiting for three months to see the people I love,
excitement and joy were an understatement.
Imagining my time with them, laughing and crying,
touching wood every time I said ‘I can’t wait to meet you’.

Booked my tickets and all that was left to do now is wait,
nothing could go wrong again, right?
Well, virus thought otherwise.
Jinxed it, yet again.

‘Congratulations, you have got the internship’
Looking at the email, did not evoke any emotion.
Didn’t make me want to run up to my parents and tell them.

A realisation dawned on me that,
I am not used to good things happening to me
I am not used to being happy for more than a second,
Without it getting ruined.
I am used to everything getting jinxed.
