Plead for Peace

I’m sick and tired
of waking up everyday
only to be told another sad story.
I keep telling myself
that it’s none of my business
only to ice my heart.
But this heart melts and melts
till it bleeds as it tears.
Devastation and devastation–
but no trace of humanity.

Peace out.
Peace out and
let a Muslim girl live without putting her up for a price.
Let a Dalit eat wherever she wants and pray at a temple.
Let farmers feed us as they always have without capitalising their tears and sweat.

Let us be a little less mean
and a little less prejudiced.
A little more serene,
a little more sympathetic.
And a little more humane.
