Summer Butterflies

Sometimes, I wish
That we weren’t humans.
Not bound to promises
Or obligated to protect our dignity.
Yearning for each other through perpetuity
Only to never hold each other again.
Sometimes, I wish
That we were summer butterflies
Who lived for no longer
Than three sunrises.
But could spend all the dawns and dusks
Dwindling over half-opened musks
With wings spread
Beholding the angelic lights.
And die in peace
The third moonset
Knowing that we loved
Not for very long,
But rather, gloriously.
