Remembering the Trauma of the Babri Masjid’s Demolition Through Art

It’s been 26 years since the Babri Masjid was demolished by a mob of kar sevaks in Ayodhya. While the site remains disputed and the Supreme Court is currently trying BJP leaders for criminal conspiracy, the incident itself is passing from living memory to history as the majority of the country’s population wasn’t alive when the mosque came down.

In this series, artist Pariplab Chakraborty imagines and commits the trauma of the demolition to our collective memory through these paintings.
